DIY secondary glazing is an ideal choice for inner city areas as it helps to reduce external noise such as road traffic, aircraft or any other activities such as building or construction work.

You can purchase special do-it-yourself kits that will allow the DIY secondary glazing to be opened or removed temporary. This will enable the original window to be opened and allow the room to be ventilated.

The main benefits of DIY secondary glazing are improved levels of heat and sound insulation. It also allows you to reduce insulation when it's not needed, for instance, during the Summer time.

The most basic designs of DIY secondary glazing and nothing more than sheets of tough plastic which are often used as a temporary measure. More permanent designs of secondary glazing can be made from materials such as rigid plastic or glass and are usually custom made.

DIY secondary glazing is achieved by placing a unit that fits directly over the existing window. This provides a permanent fixed second layer of glass that is ideal for keeping out draughts and improving the energy efficiency of your home.

Simple DIY secondary glazing can be little more than a sheet of glass or plastic fixed to an existing window frame with a seal in between. This method is relatively cheep.

Ventilation is essential, therefore, fixed DIY secondary glazing should never be installed on all opening windows in the same room.
