Summerhouse Design

It is interesting to note that currently, there are over 500,000 log homes in the U.S. This count accounts for 7% of the whole custom home building market in the U.S.

Log cabins are much cheaper to build and maintain than bricks and mortar buildings, and add a wonderful touch with their wood materials and traditional construction techniques.

Other people prefer to have a log cabin in their garden to act as an extension to the home and converted into an office, gym, art room or playroom, etc.

When you build a log cabin, whilst it will be an investment in time, money and effort, you will be able to enjoy and appreciate your log cabin over many years and probably generations.

A Summerhouse is a small roofed building of varying forms in gardens or parks designed to provide cool shady places of relaxation or retreats from summer heat.

In the past log cabins were never intended as permanent dwellings and as time passed they were often converted into out buildings for coops, animal shelter or other utilitarian uses.

A summerhouse is much more attractive than a standard shed and can just as easily be used for storage.

Interestingly, there is now a toy available in the market, called Lincoln Logs, which is fast becoming a favorite among the young. It is obviously named after Abraham Lincoln, who must be the most famous figurehead associated with log cabins.

More and more log cabins are being built as a permanent dwelling for many people.

Although log cabins and log houses are constructed from the similar materials they do have some differences; log cabins are usually built with round rather than hewn or hand-worked wood where as log houses tend be a one story building, with an almost "less finished" appearance (unlike the log cabins) as these were initially constructed with the intention of being short-term.
