Mobile Log Cabins

The majority of the log cabins that were constructed in the 18th century in the United States are no longer around as many fell into disrepair.

Milled lumber is the most common type of roofing for a log cabin. The roofs are usually covered by either cedar shingles or skip sheeting. The purlin roof and rafter roof are also popular.

Log cabins are often bought directly from a supplier, and the choice is huge.

Mold and mildew that settle on the wood panels of the log cabin must be dealt. This will keep them from spreading and wrecking havoc on the rest of the structure.

Although log cabins and log houses are constructed from the similar materials they do have some differences; log cabins are usually built with round rather than hewn or hand-worked wood where as log houses tend be a one story building, with an almost "less finished" appearance (unlike the log cabins) as these were initially constructed with the intention of being short-term.

Before you take the plunge into buying a plot of land to build your own log cabin, do some research into your costs, so you know exactly what you can or cannot afford.

The strongest and most resilient log cabins were made with siding. With this kind, the logs were attached together on the interior of the cabin as well as being covered with a number of different materials to make them strong.

A log cabin as a second home can be bought used, brand new, or built as a DIY project, and there are log cabin companies that specialize in each of these areas.

Most log cabins before were built with logs horizontally laid and connected at the ends with notches. Some use nails instead of notches, but the latter is still better.

There are many different types of log cabins for sale these days. You can find A-frames, single-family cabins, multi-family cabins, open floor plans and the traditional American log cabin.
